Preview:
Chasing the title
May 16, 2008

Although
SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero stripped Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship (WATCH the SmackDown Rebound), The Deadman has the opportunity to regain the gold in a title match with Edge at Judgment Day. (Match preview) The Ultimate Opportunist earned the spot after winning last week’s Championship Chase to Judgment Day. Read the full story…

But now that the GM has angered The Deadman, will he wait until the big pay-per-view encounter to unleash hell, or will he bring pain to some poor soul on this Friday’s SmackDown? And as for the Ultimate Opportunist – after losing to Undertaker at both WrestleMania XXIV and Backlash – what measures is he willing to go to recapture the gold?

As Judgment Day approaches, what might we see from last week’s Championship Chase participants, including United States Champion Matt Hardy, Big Show, Batista, Finlay and Montel Vontavious Porter. With Edge and Undertaker guaranteed a match at the big pay-per-view encounter, who might be next? And what about SmackDown’s undefeated Superstars, Vladimir Kozlov and Natalya? Can they keep their streaks alive?

Find out the answers to these questions and more on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 CT on The CW Network.

Article Source: ProWrestling.com

Mickie To SmackDown?

- Reader Rachel sent this in... While reading the new WWE Magazine Superstar Yearbook, I read in the Mickie James article that she might be switching brands. Here is what it said, "Despite the lack of Women's Championship, we wouldn't be surprised to see Mickie moved to SmackDown, where she can thoroughly dominate."

Edge is stunned as the World Heavyweight Championship burns

The Opportunist's Deadly Chase
By: James Vermillion
Written: May 9, 2008

London, Ontario – After stripping Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship last Friday, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero declared The Deadman would have an opportunity to regain the gold in less than two weeks at Judgment Day. To determine his opponent, the GM set up the Championship Chase to Judgment Day.

The premise was simple: The Phenom would face any former or current World, United States or ECW Champion – minus The Great Khali and Edge, who were rendered medically unable to compete – who won the one-night Championship Chase.

In the first qualifying match for the main event, Mr. Money in the Bank CM Punk faced United States Champion Matt Hardy. In the King of the Ring rematch, Hardy reversed Punk’s roll up to advance.

The next qualifier pit two former U.S. Champions — MVP and Finlay — against one another. With a controversial finish, both men were awarded the pin by referee Mickie Henson. Later, Vickie Guerrero decided the Irishman and the Franchise Playa were both winners and would advance to the main event.

For the third match in the Chase, former World Heavyweight Champion Batista went one-on-one with former ECW Champion and current WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison. Morrison controlled the majority of the match, using his speed to subdue The Animal. Unfortunately for the Shaman of Sexy, an ill-timed springboard maneuver left him vulnerable to a spear and the Batista Bomb allowing Batista to move on.

Big Show and Tommy Dreamer were the next to vie for a spot in the main event. The ECW Original gave it his all, but fell to The World’s Largest Athlete, as Big Show defeated Dreamer to move on in the Chase.

The final qualifier was a WrestleMania XXIV rematch between ECW Champion Kane and Chavo Guerrero. Despite interference from Bam Neely on the outside, the Big Red Machine was again able to top the Mexican Warrior and move one step closer to facing his brother at Judgment Day.

After winning the hard-fought qualifying matches, the six competitors battled it out in the Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge to declare the final winner. Each man showing fatigue, they all pushed themselves to the breaking point, with an opportunity at SmackDown’s most prestigious title hanging in the balance.

In the end it came down to two men: The Animal and The World’s Largest Athlete. Big Show smirked as he went to eliminate The Animal, but Batista pulled him over instead, as the fans erupted with cheers. But before Batista could celebrate, Vickie Guerrero was wheeled out with some “great” news: Edge had just been medically cleared, and would be a part of the Championship Chase . The Rated-R Superstar’s jetted down the ramp and immediately speared Batista through the ropes, stealing The Animal’s spot at Judgment Day.

The Ultimate Opportunist celebrated his victory as our fans expressed their displeasure toward another conniving scheme by Edge and his fiancĂ©e. As a bolt of lightening struck the podium holding the World Heavyweight Championship, Edge’s smile faded. A single gong resonated through the building, and the Rated-R Superstar knew that in less than two weeks at Judgment Day, he’d be subject to The Deadman’s wrath once again.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - Official Preview (May 9, 2008)

Preview:
There for the taking?

May 9, 2008

Now that
SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero has stripped Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship, when and where will the next champion be crowned? Will The Deadman be looking to reclaim his title as soon as possible? Will Edge try to leverage his relationship with the GM to get his hands on the gold once again? Or, will another Superstar step up and try to claim the title? (WATCH the SmackDown Rebound)

When Shawn Michaels defeated Batista at Backlash, he finally silenced one of his toughest critics. Or did he? After Chris Jericho’s recent Highlight Reel – where Y2J accused HBK of faking his injury at Backlash – Batista vowed to hurt HBK if he isn’t truly injured. Will Batista keep his word?

When Big Show demolished The Great Khali at Backlash, he took down one of WWE’s biggest Superstars. Last week on SmackDown, The World’s Largest Athlete had a staredown with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry that ended with Big Show calling for Henry to pick on someone his own size. What will happen the next time these two behemoths encounter each other?

On last week’s Championship Friday edition of SmackDown, the WWE Tag Team Champions defended their title. But, with all the talk they’re doing in the Dirt Sheet, how long before they tick off the wrong person?

Also on Championship Friday, Matt Hardy retained his United States gold against Montel Vontavious Porter. MVP held onto the title for almost a year. How long can Hardy?

As Judgment Day approaches, find out the answers to these questions and more on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 CT on The CW Network.

Please remember if you are attending a WWE television taping in the near future and would like to assist in our weekly coverage send me an email.

Off-Air Notes:
- According to our correspondent the arena is approximately 90% full. Only half of the top section is tarped off.

- A WrestleMania XXIV video package is shown.

Dark Match:

* Jamie Noble b. Ted Dibiase Jr. with roll up for the pin.

WWE SmackDown (Airing This Friday At 8:00 PM EDT):

* A segment was taped with Mark Henry coming out to the ring and saying if Big Show sticks his nose in his business then he's going to do something about it.

* SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero comes out. She makes the announcement that at Judgment Day The Undertaker will be able to compete for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship title against an opponent that will be determined tonight.

* It is announced that there will be a "Champion Chase" tournament. The winners of the tournament will compete in an over the top battle royal as this week's SmackDown main event. The winner of that match will face The Undertaker at Jugment Day.

* Matt Hardy b. CM Punk in a qualifying match. Punk tried to roll up Hardy but he reversed it to advance to the Battle Royal later tonight!

* MVP vs. Fit Finlay ends in a countout. The match was described to me as slow and boring.

* Natalya Neidhart b. Kelly Kelly with a sharpshooter!

* It is announced that both MVP and Fit Finlay will be included in tonight's main event battle royal.

* Batista b. John Morrison to qualify for the Battle Royal later tonight!

* Big Show b. Tommy Dreamer in a short match with a chokeslam.

* Kane b. Chavo Guerrero to advance to tonight's Battle Royal main event!

* Vladimir Kozlov b. Local Jobber in a complete squash match.

* The Chase the Championship Battle Royal main event is next. Big Show vs. Kane vs. Batista vs. Matt Hardy vs. Fit Finlay vs. MVP
Matt Hardy is eliminated first by MVP. Finlay is eliminated next by Kane. MVP eliminates himself. Big Show eliminates Kane. Batista eliminates Big Show for the win!

Vickie Guerrero comes out and says Edge has been cleared to wrestle. Edge spears Batista off the ring apron.

* SmackDown ends with Edge celebrating on the entrance stage beside a podium that contains the World Heavyweight Championship belt (it had been there all night). The podium suddenly blows up and the lights go out. Undertaker's music hits. No Taker.
