Mickie To SmackDown?

- Reader Rachel sent this in... While reading the new WWE Magazine Superstar Yearbook, I read in the Mickie James article that she might be switching brands. Here is what it said, "Despite the lack of Women's Championship, we wouldn't be surprised to see Mickie moved to SmackDown, where she can thoroughly dominate."

Edge is stunned as the World Heavyweight Championship burns

The Opportunist's Deadly Chase
By: James Vermillion
Written: May 9, 2008

London, Ontario – After stripping Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship last Friday, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero declared The Deadman would have an opportunity to regain the gold in less than two weeks at Judgment Day. To determine his opponent, the GM set up the Championship Chase to Judgment Day.

The premise was simple: The Phenom would face any former or current World, United States or ECW Champion – minus The Great Khali and Edge, who were rendered medically unable to compete – who won the one-night Championship Chase.

In the first qualifying match for the main event, Mr. Money in the Bank CM Punk faced United States Champion Matt Hardy. In the King of the Ring rematch, Hardy reversed Punk’s roll up to advance.

The next qualifier pit two former U.S. Champions — MVP and Finlay — against one another. With a controversial finish, both men were awarded the pin by referee Mickie Henson. Later, Vickie Guerrero decided the Irishman and the Franchise Playa were both winners and would advance to the main event.

For the third match in the Chase, former World Heavyweight Champion Batista went one-on-one with former ECW Champion and current WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison. Morrison controlled the majority of the match, using his speed to subdue The Animal. Unfortunately for the Shaman of Sexy, an ill-timed springboard maneuver left him vulnerable to a spear and the Batista Bomb allowing Batista to move on.

Big Show and Tommy Dreamer were the next to vie for a spot in the main event. The ECW Original gave it his all, but fell to The World’s Largest Athlete, as Big Show defeated Dreamer to move on in the Chase.

The final qualifier was a WrestleMania XXIV rematch between ECW Champion Kane and Chavo Guerrero. Despite interference from Bam Neely on the outside, the Big Red Machine was again able to top the Mexican Warrior and move one step closer to facing his brother at Judgment Day.

After winning the hard-fought qualifying matches, the six competitors battled it out in the Over-the-Top-Rope Challenge to declare the final winner. Each man showing fatigue, they all pushed themselves to the breaking point, with an opportunity at SmackDown’s most prestigious title hanging in the balance.

In the end it came down to two men: The Animal and The World’s Largest Athlete. Big Show smirked as he went to eliminate The Animal, but Batista pulled him over instead, as the fans erupted with cheers. But before Batista could celebrate, Vickie Guerrero was wheeled out with some “great” news: Edge had just been medically cleared, and would be a part of the Championship Chase . The Rated-R Superstar’s jetted down the ramp and immediately speared Batista through the ropes, stealing The Animal’s spot at Judgment Day.

The Ultimate Opportunist celebrated his victory as our fans expressed their displeasure toward another conniving scheme by Edge and his fiancĂ©e. As a bolt of lightening struck the podium holding the World Heavyweight Championship, Edge’s smile faded. A single gong resonated through the building, and the Rated-R Superstar knew that in less than two weeks at Judgment Day, he’d be subject to The Deadman’s wrath once again.

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - Official Preview (May 9, 2008)

Preview:
There for the taking?

May 9, 2008

Now that
SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero has stripped Undertaker of the World Heavyweight Championship, when and where will the next champion be crowned? Will The Deadman be looking to reclaim his title as soon as possible? Will Edge try to leverage his relationship with the GM to get his hands on the gold once again? Or, will another Superstar step up and try to claim the title? (WATCH the SmackDown Rebound)

When Shawn Michaels defeated Batista at Backlash, he finally silenced one of his toughest critics. Or did he? After Chris Jericho’s recent Highlight Reel – where Y2J accused HBK of faking his injury at Backlash – Batista vowed to hurt HBK if he isn’t truly injured. Will Batista keep his word?

When Big Show demolished The Great Khali at Backlash, he took down one of WWE’s biggest Superstars. Last week on SmackDown, The World’s Largest Athlete had a staredown with the World’s Strongest Man, Mark Henry that ended with Big Show calling for Henry to pick on someone his own size. What will happen the next time these two behemoths encounter each other?

On last week’s Championship Friday edition of SmackDown, the WWE Tag Team Champions defended their title. But, with all the talk they’re doing in the Dirt Sheet, how long before they tick off the wrong person?

Also on Championship Friday, Matt Hardy retained his United States gold against Montel Vontavious Porter. MVP held onto the title for almost a year. How long can Hardy?

As Judgment Day approaches, find out the answers to these questions and more on Friday Night SmackDown at 8/7 CT on The CW Network.

* Jamie Noble b. Ted Dibiase Jr. with roll up for the pin.

Our corresponded tells me all he can say is “WOW!”

RAW Cable Rating (5.5.08)

This past Monday, RAW was live on Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The show averaged a 3.2 cable rating which is 0.1 down from last week's episode. The overrun (which is from 10:00 p.m. ET to 10:10 p.m. ET) scored a 3.66 cable rating.

Its a good thing that RAW's head writer canceled his vacation because if he didn't we would see some early summer numbers coming in.

ECW - 100th Episode - (Preview for May 6, 2008)

Extreme diamond anniversary
By: Andrew Rote
Written: May 5, 2008

It has been nearly two years since the rebirth of ECW, as the extreme brand reaches its 100th episode of bending reality on Sci Fi. The Land of the Extreme has certainly experienced plenty of change throughout those 100 nights, but one thing has remained, and that’s the unique, over-the-top style of wrestling that is unmatched anywhere else in the world of sports-entertainment.

Since its debut on June 16, 2006, ECW has been one of the Sci Fi Channel's highest-rated programs. It is also one of the top performing cable programs on Tuesday nights among men.

In remembering the past two years, it’s nearly impossible not to recall the original ECW — a breeding ground that has produced Superstars like Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards and Hardcore Legend Mick Foley, to name a few.

“We in ECW faced a huge mountain to climb when it came to trying to compete on the same stage as WWE or WCW,” Foley said. “We didn’t have the resources, but we had the talent and the heart to put on a show that was as good, if not better.”

While Foley, SmackDown’s new commentator had a deep appreciation for the early days of ECW, he is also excited about the revived extreme brand.

“I really like how [ECW] lets younger wrestlers get an opportunity to show what they can do on an international stage.”

Mike Knox is a Superstar who has enjoyed much success from his ECW opportunity.

"I’m proud to be on the 100th episode," said Mike Knox. “I was in the new ECW back pretty much from show number one and I always thought it was made up of the most extreme athletes.”

Of those young athletes, none are greener than Superstar hopeful Colin Delaney. For the “lovable loser,” episode 100 has an even greater meaning than it does to the rest of the roster. Tuesday night will serve as the stage for his final chance at an ECW contract, which the brand’s General Manager holds the key to.

“Colin Delaney has the biggest match of his career,” said Armando Estrada. “All he’s got to do is beat the former Cuban Heavyweight Champion, the former Havana Freestyle Champion, the General Manager of ECW, Armando Estrada. If he doesn’t, then I guess he won’t be around for the 101st episode.”

Big Show doesn’t make regular appearances on Tuesday nights; however, ECW still occupies a large part of the giant’s heart.

“I really understood the attitude of ECW against the world,” he said. “ECW has never been the big flagship promotion that some of the other brands have been, but it will always be a collection of guys that dig deep, work hard and give 100 percent every night. That’s something you can get caught up in and respect.”

CM Punk sees the brand in a similar light, calling ECW the underdog of WWE. But for Superstar Shelton Benjamin, ECW serves as a vehicle for personal success.

“I’ve seen a lot of great athletes come out of ECW, but obviously none as great as the ‘Gold Standard’ himself, Shelton Benjamin,” he explained. “ECW has been a rebirth for Shelton Benjamin, and with the 100th episode around the corner, I can’t wait to actually be a part of that.”

Matt Striker also expressed his excitement for being a part of this milestone, using his words as eloquently as ever.

“I know what it’s like to be hit in the head with a garbage can, to go crashing through a table and at the same time eat worms,” Striker recalled. “Whether I enjoyed it at the time or not, the bottom line is that after 100 episodes, I can look back and say that Matt Striker did his part to entertain our fans. Even though I’m the most hated man in wrestling, you have to admit that I am extremely entertaining and I look forward to doing it a whole host more.”

Believe it or not, Tuesday also marks 100 episodes for Kelly Kelly. The blond beauty has been a staple in the Land of the Extreme since the brand commenced. In fact, she is the only Diva on the WWE roster who has been with the ECW brand since day one.

“I’ve been through a lot and I’ve had a lot of boyfriends,” she said. “And I’ve loved every minute of it.”

The Sci Fi Channel fuels the imagination of viewers with original series and events, blockbuster movies and classic science fiction and fantasy programming. A network of NBC Universal, Sci Fi was launched in 1992 and currently airs in 85 million homes.

Be sure not to miss this week’s milestone edition of ECW. Celebrate 100 episodes in the Land of the Extreme, find out if Colin Delaney will achieve his dream of becoming an ECW Superstar, and check out Tommy Dreamer in action as he tries to avenge Mike Knox’s attacks in the squared circle. It’s all Tuesday at 10/9 CT on ECW on Sci Fi.

WWE RAW (Results) - May 5, 2008

Results:
Punk'd by the General Manager
By: Lennie DiFino
May 5, 2008

TORONTO – Former WWE Champion Randy Orton’s pursuit of the title has the Superstar crazed with nothing but revenge on his mind. His opponent Monday Night, the reigning Mr. Money in the Bank, CM Punk, also has his sights on gold.

While Orton knows he will fight Triple H at Judgment Day, Punk continues to bide his time until he sees the opportunity to challenge for a World Title, with the deadline for cashing in WrestleMania XXV in Houston. But both men had their plans of gaining momentum dashed when General Manager William Regal ended their one-on-one encounter, once again wielding his power by turning out the lights.

Neither Punk nor Orton’s nights were over, however, as the Straightedge Superstar competed in the main event match that saw the entire ECW roster take on Triple H & Mr. Kennedy. When that match turned into a 16-man melee, Punk found himself the victim of a Triple H chair shot to the head, while Orton capitalized when the lights went out, emerging to deliver a thunderous RKO to his Judgment Day opponent. I got all my sisters and me
Beth Phoenix invoked her rematch clause on Raw, but Women’s Champion Mickie James successfully defended her title against the former champion in a Lumberjack Match. Over the past few weeks, the Divas of WWE have been involved in 12-Diva Tag Matches, but this night belonged to the Women’s Champion.

The Glamazon’s fellow Diva, Melina, cost her the chance to reclaim gold when she accidentally nailed the dominant Diva with her boot, giving James the opening she needed to earn another victory and keep her title.

Tumultuous tandem
Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho & Shawn Michaels teamed together on Raw to defeat WWE Tag Team Champions John Morrison & The Miz in a non-title match. With HBK seemingly less than 100 percent, Y2J fought the champions with all he had, and Michaels delivered Sweet Chin Music to John Morrison, followed by a Lionsault by Jericho to get the win.

After Raw finished, WWE Mobile on AT&T subscribers were the first of our fans to know that at Judgment Day, the growing tension between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho will see the two square off one-on-one. Preview the match

The Cabana gets “Rowdy”
Carlito hosted a special edition of his Cabana with a very special guest – WWE Hall of Famer “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. Carlito told Piper that it wasn’t cool when he slapped Santino Marella last week, which brought Marella and a microphone to the arena.

Insulting Piper, Marella berated “Hot Rod” for his actions, and the No. 1 contenders to the World Tag Team Championship were poised to attack – until Cody Rhodes came to Piper’s defense. Rhodes told Carlito & Santino that even though his fellow champion Hardcore Holly wasn’t in the arena tonight, another duo was anxious to meet Roddy Piper. Rhodes introduced Cryme Tyme, and JTG & Shad joined Rhodes and Piper in ridding Toronto of “Can-tino.”

Angry god
JBL’s anger over losing the Fatal Four Way at Backlash continued for a second straight week, as the self-proclaimed “Wrestling god” took on Canada’s own DH Smith. Offering a warning before the match to Smith, JBL pummeled the young Raw Superstar and solidified his threats to John Cena – the man who eliminated him at Backlash. JBL is more focused with his newfound attitude, and he is looking to make Cena – whom he will face at Judgment Day – and anyone else who stands in his way pay for his misery.

For love of country
GM William Regal continued to lend a hand to his fellow Britons, Paul & Katie Lea Burchill, when he placed the siblings into a Handicap Match for the second straight week. Before the match, Regal removed Jim Ross from commentary and replaced him with Mike Adamle, much to the chagrin of everyone but the General Manager. The Burchill’s made the most of the opportunity afforded to them, destroying their competition once again. Paul delivered a devastating curb stomp to John Cutler, again allowing Katie Lea to get the pin for the victory.

Apologies, surprises…DAMN
Last week, Trevor Murdoch expressed his frustration over mounting losses with his rendition of "Friends in Low Places" – much to the chagrin of his tag team partner, Lance Cade. Murdoch continued his serenading ways this week, belting out "Stand by Your Man." Toronto’s own Trish Stratus made a surprising return to the Air Canada Centre, and then she was joined by Ron Simmons, who had his own critique of Trevor’s tune: “Damn!”

Regal goes to the Extreme
The 2008 King of the Ring and Raw General Manager, William Regal, began his night by receiving a ringing endorsement from Mr. McMahon. With that in hand, he continued his iron-fisted rule over the Superstars of Raw.

Regal came face-to-face with Mr. Kennedy, whom he brawled with last week, and on Raw warned not to draw his ire. But the loudmouth would not listen, and Regal then ordered Kennedy into a Handicap Match against the entire ECW roster – a favor for ECW General Manager Armando Estrada to help promote Tuesday’s 100th episode of ECW on Sci Fi.

WWE Champion Triple H then came to the ring to voice his displeasure over Regal’s decision to turn the lights out on his match with Randy Orton last week. The Game’s mouth landed him in the Handicap Match alongside Kennedy, and when the smoke cleared, ECW’s best and brightest stood tall with the odds stacked in their favor.

WWE News: Mark Henry Gives Mr. McMahon Ultimatum

Mark Henry Gives Vince McMahon Ultimatum

Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Since the story broke that Michael Hayes' suspension was a direct result of Mark Henry going to WWE management and complaining about Hayes' racist remarks, many wrestlers have spoken to Mark Henry and tried ot get the real scoop on what happened. Henry has been telling people backstage that he went to Vince and said, “Either he goes or I go."

Things are very uncomfortable backstage regarding thoe whole situation. People are wondering how Hayes can be brought back after 60 days like nothing happened, but the general feeling is that Hayes will return. Hayes is very close with the McMahan family and it's unlikely he will leave the company over this incident. Not much happened to Hayes after he got drunk and made a scene at Stephanie and Hunter's wedding, so the feeling is that this too shall pass.

Despite being suspended, Michael Hayes is being kept up-to-date with storylines and company information via email.

Mike Adamle Incident: This is Getting Worse!

- At Tuesday's (April 29, 2008) SmackDown/ECW taping in Atlantic City, a fan was heckling Mike Adamle big-time. He was asking Adamle how many mistakes he was going to make on the show. However, a WWE tech guy put an end to the heckling by confronting the fan and saying, "There will be none of that tonight and if I hear one more word out of you, I will throw you out of here." Security also confiscated an "Adamle Sucks" sign.

Last year's WWE Vengeance PPV was dubbed the "Night of Champions" and every single title in WWE (and ECW) was on the line. The company has done away with Vengeance and on June 29th from Dallas, Texas - WWE Presents: the Night of Champions.

It's interestig to note that the poster is already outdated - neither The Undertaker or Randy Orton are still have the belts they're holding.

WWE SmackDown! - Nielsen Ratings (5.2.08)

The May 2, 2008 edition of WWE Friday Niht SmackDown! scored a 2.3 broadcast rating/4 share and about 3.90 million viewers tuned in. SmackDown! registered a 1.2 in the A18-49 demographic (ave. is 1.4).

The numbers are below-average numbers especially the viewers (ave. is 4.5 to 4.8 million).

One reason can be considered why numbers are down: The #3 Nielsen market (Chicago) was pre-empted because of a Chicago Cubs game.

WWE RAW (Preview) - May 5, 2008

Toronto Torrent
May 5, 2008

When Raw broadcasts from Toronto, Canada, next Monday night, the cold temperatures will be nothing compared to the chilly reception Randy Orton will likely receive the next time he faces Triple H.

The newly-crowned WWE Champion battled the Legend Killer in a title match last week, with the broadcast ending in a blackout after a disgruntled William Regal pulled the plug on the audio and video. Before ruining the main event for viewers, however, the Raw General Manager did manage to arrange for the two combatants to meet one another next month at Judgment Day in a WWE Championship Steel Cage Match. How will the two Superstars prepare for one another in the prelude to pain?

The discontented King of the Ring saw his coronation ceremony turned upside down thanks to Mr. Kennedy. Not one to follow sovereign protocol, the loudmouth from Green Bay, Wis. came to blows with Regal, who then promised retribution. What punishment awaits Mr. Kennedy compliments of His Royal Pain in the Arse?

It also appears that title-hungry JBL isn’t about to hang up his 10-gallon hat anytime soon. After handily defeating Robbie McAllister last week, the media maven made it perfectly clear that he continues to gun for the title, too. Not one to sit idly by, what does JBL have in store for those who stand between him and the gold? And what exactly will JBL have in mind for John Cena after he embarrassed the “wrestling god” at Backlash?

In other Raw action, Carlito & Santino Marella continue to provoke the anger of World Tag Team Champions Hardcore Holly & Cody Rhodes. Last week, Rhodes defeated Santino, but the Caribbean Bad Apple snuck up on Rhodes and dropped him with a Backstabber. What sly stunts can we expect from “Cantino” this week? Or will the reigning tag team champions have their say?
